This is a sterling silver 1.8″W x 0.6″H pin and clasp brooch with 21 turquoise attachments acquired from the Kewa (Santo Domingo) Pueblo circa 2002. The weight of the piece is 4.86 grams (0.172 oz.).  The piece is signed “R Lonjose”, however we are unable to authenticate this artisan.

Description

Kewa Pueblo has long been recognized as a community rich in tribal pottery, basketry, and jewelry artisans.  It is situated between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico, along the Rio Grande.  It was given the Santo Domingo name by the Spanish conquistadors , but has always been known as Kewa by its indigenous inhabitants.  To learn more about the customs and culture of the Kewa, click here.
